T'Vhor, Lt. Brownlee and Commander Rulestaad all seated in a semi-circle in front of her. There was a number of PADD's laying on her desk. Eva had waited till the away team had been cleared by medical to call this impromptu meeting of her command staff. "Alright," Eva said, making sure she had everyone's attention. "First, let me commend each of you on a job well done." She nodded at Capps, T'Vhor, and Brownlee. "First contact with a new alien species is always delicate. This one more so than usual given the difficulty establishing a stable line of communication." Eva paused as she picked up one of the PADD's on her desk. "Unfortunately, there is no time to rest as Commander Rulestaad here has brought with her new orders for the Battle Group. Before I get to that however I have another matter to attend to. Lt. T'Vhor, I never like losing an officer of your level of competence, however the USS Specter is sorely in need of a new First Officer and the position is yours." Eva handed T'Vhor the PADD with his transfer orders on it. "With the transfer also comes a promotion to Lt(sg). Congratulations, Lt." Eva then handed T'Vhor a small box containing his new pip. "There is a runabout waiting to take you to Geneva to rendezvous with the Specter. I know you will serve Captain Ktell and the crew of the Specter with the same level of competence and professionalism that you have me and the crew of the Paladin." (Reply T'Vhor) Once T'Vhor had left on his way to collect his belongings before beginning the journey to Geneva and his new assignment, Eva shifted to look at Lt. Brownlee. "With Lt. T'Vhor's reassignment you will be taking over as Second Officer effective immediately. I will expect you to work closely with Commander Capps to ensure the smooth running of the ship and to maintain a high level of crew efficiency." (Reply Brownlee IYW) "Commander Rulestaad is our new Strategic Operations Officer," Eva said, nodding toward the Commander. "I'm sure she already know who you two are, so I will skip the introductions and get down to business. Commander, I want you to reassemble the battle group at these coordinates." Eva handed Rulestaad one of the remaining PADD's still on her desk. "Those not able to arrive at the coordinates in the next 48 hours will have to meet up with us en route to the target. I estimate it shouldn't take no more than 72 hours to fully reassemble the battle group. You and I will discuss the matter more fully once we are under way." (Reply Rulestaad) Eva then turned to look at Commander Capps. "Commander, I want a full senior officer meeting in the Observation Lounge in 1 hour for a mission briefing no exceptions. First though, I want you to have a course plotted to these coordinates at warp 7." Eva handed Capps yet another PADD. "You will also find details of our new mission on the PADD review the data, I will want your input on possible tactics and strategy. For now, your all dismissed." The Captains demeanor was on edge, there had obviously been developments but he had hardly expected what those developments would turn out to be. She had taken a deep breath before she had spoken, clearly she really meant what she was about to say & it would have showed even to a non empath. "Lt. T'Vhor, I never like losing an officer of your level of competence, however the USS Spectre is sorely in need of a new First Officer and the position is yours.", said the Captain. Her words had surprised him, a transfer? at this stage in the war..... "With the transfer also comes a promotion to Lt(sg). Congratulations, Lt." "There is a runabout waiting to take you to Geneva to rendezvous with the Spectre", said the Captain. "I know you will serve Captain K`tell and the crew of the Spectre with the same level of competence and professionalism that you have me and the crew of the Paladin." T`Vhor furrowed his brow in responce. It seemed however that the order had been stamped in stone. "I am honoured Captain of course, I feel my place however is here on the front with those who need me", said T`Vhor. (Reply CO) "Then of course it is my duty to go", said T`Vhor, "I wish it to be made clear on my record however that it was not my decision to leave the Paladin & her crew at this most difficult of times", he added as he dutifully took the pip offered to him by the Captain. (Reply CO) T`Vhor stood & then he looked around the room at the assembled officers & nodded to each of them in turn as a sign of respect. Then he left to go & gather his belongings for the second time in not too long a duration. Cmdr Capps - 1401) Calvin sat in a chair with happiness that the away mission was over and successfully. He paid attention to what his commanding officers updates and debriefs, but he was also curious as to the unknown commander int he room as well. Calvin then was shocked by the news of his second officer leaving. It was such a surprised, and he never saw it coming. Calvin knew that Lt. T'Vhor deserved the position. He was an excellent officer, and he would make a great first officer to any commanding officer. To any crew. Then the Captain moved on to the note that the first officer was wondering about since he walked into the ready room. The unknown officer. After which Captain Straton explained who she was Calvin was grateful to have the new officer aboard. ~How many more changes can there be in one day.~ "Commander, I want a full senior officer meeting in the Observation Lounge in 1 hour for a mission briefing no exceptions. First though, I want you to have a course plotted to these coordinates at warp 7." Eva handed Capps yet another PADD. "You will also find details of our new mission on the PADD review the data, I will want your input on possible tactics and strategy. For now, your all dismissed." "Aye sir." Calvin stood up from his seat and headed to the bridge where he found a face that was for sore eyes. Calvin took a seat at the middle command chair. "Lt. Max I am sending you coordinates. Proceed at warp 7. Engage." Max looked at the coordinates that his console had just received. "Aye sir. Course plotted, moving at warp 7. Aye sir." The feel of the plating beneath the Lt. feet shook a little more, and he could hear the warp engines firing up. "Thank you Lt." Calvin then turned his attention to Ensign Knightley. "Ensign Knightley. Send a message to all senior crew. There will be a mandatory meeting, top priority at 1500 hrs." Elizabeth ran her fingers over the console and followed the Lt. Cmdrs orders. "Aye sir." After which Calvin was done. He looked at the Tactical console and yet saw another face he was unfamiliar with. "Lt? Who are you?" (reply Alan) "Very well. What is our status of our defensive systems." (reply Alan) After which Lt. Kerge reported the first officer moved to an unmanned computer console on the back of the bridge. He downloaded the material on the PADD the Captain gave him and started to work on his analysis. (jg) Jroan Matthew Brownlee -14:01) Joran and the rest of the command staff had been called to a meeting in the captain's Ready Room, and now they were all seated in a semicircle in front of her desk which was covered with PADDs. "Alright," Straton said, making sure she had everyone's attention. "First, let me commend each of you on a job well done." She nodded at Capps, T'Vhor, and Joran. "First contact with a new alien species is always delicate. I will do my best to live up to the example set by my predecesor. I am honoured to be given this position." (reply Straton IYW) "Commander Rulestaad is our new Strategic Operations Officer," she said, nodding toward the Commander. "I'm sure she already knows who you two are, so I will skip the introductions and get down to business. Commander, I want you to reassemble the battle group at these coordinates." Joran got up and followed Commander Capps onto the bridge and took up his position at the science station. He heard many orders being relayed by Capps as he resumed his work on the alien database. "Lt. Max I am sending you coordinates. Proceed at warp 7. Engage." Max looked at the coordinates that his console had just received. "Aye sir. Course plotted, moving at warp 7. Aye sir." The ship gave a shudder, then leaped forward into space towards their new destination. "Thank you Lt. Ensign Knightley. Send a message to all senior crew. There will be a mandatory meeting, top priority at 1500 hrs." "Aye sir." "Lt? Who are you?" Joran turned to see a Klingon at the Tactical console, a new addition to the crew, but he couldn't be sure. (reply Kerge) "Very well. What is our status of our defensive systems." (reply Kerge) After the Tactical report, Capps moved to the unmanned console adjacent to where Joran was working. Joran turned to him. "Sir?" (reply Capps) "I've almost finished with the updated translation matrix and should have the database translated within the hour. Should I integrate it into the general database or keep the files seperate?" He had yet to meet the FO in his capacity as TAC/SC but he was hardly prepared for the somewhat off way in which Capps had addressed him. "Lt? Who are you?", said Capps. Kerge stood up straight as he turned to face the FO, then he addressed him after a short pause. "Lt Kerge sir", said Kerge, "I am replacing Lt T`Vhor as TAC/SC", he added. "Very well. What is the status of our defensive systems?", said the FO. "Our shield generators are at optimal efficiency, as are our torpedo launchers & phaser arrays sir", said Kerge. "We are ready for battle should the need arise", he added haughtilly as he returned to the perimeter scans he was running before the FO had addressed him. (posted by Alan) ========================================================== (USS Paladin - Strategic Operations Center - Commander Rulestaad - 14:20) Jenna poked her identification card into the slot provided, and said allowed. "Commander Jenna Rulestaad. Authorization Rulestaad, Omega Seven Foxtrot Seven" The triple sealed blast doors before her opened, and she walked into the immense place that was to become her new home. A thrice sealed and hardened set of rooms set deep into the ship in case of attack. The place was huge, a slightly-smaller duplicate setup from Strategic Operations on Earth, set here in full operation just in case Earth was ever destroyed or a full set or a high fleet admiral made this is flag-ship. And now, she commanded the place. Jenna scanned the area, feeling like a Queen seeing her castle for the first time. She stood in the main situation center; above her was an overlooking control room that she would use. The main Situation map was contained in this room, it stood thirty feet tall and four hundred feet wide, and outlined strategic developments in known space. NRPG: Think NORAD here. RPG: The control room above it was once again shielded, and overlooked everything in the Main Situation Center from its glassed enclosure. That was where her office was, and where all primary decisions were made. There were hallways branching everywhere, with color coding for what they led to. All in all, there were some hundred rooms here at Primary Strategic Operations, the place *was* a castle! And at her command, it could be locked down so that only her and the Captain could enter or exit. Jenna noticed people looking at her then looking back to their screens. She smiled slightly at their reactions. The captain must have whipped them into shape real quick, they were acting with more professionalism then she would have usually granted anyone who had been, basically, sitting idle until now. She was getting looks, but none of it contained surprise. She walked slowly down the walkways with her hands behind her back, taking in faces and the setup. Her eyes darted here and there, taking in who was working and who was gawking at her. Those who had their attention from their screens for more then two seconds would find themselves ousted from Stratops in a matter of hours, never to return. She walked up the metal stairway to the Observation/Command Rooms instead of taking the lift, so she could get a good long look at the complex as a whole. Once she reached the outer command doors, she repeated the same words she had to get into Stratops itself, and then walked in as the inner blast door slid open. Inside, where twenty men and women, manning essential communications and keeping their eyes on new developments and important broadcasts. She stood at the door for a moment as the room-guard bellowed, "CO ON DECK!" None of the twenty did anything more then raise a hand to confirm they heard. ~Good~ she thought. ~One point in their favor, they are all trained and conditioned.~ She almost found the thought sad. Her first order of business as Commander of Stratops would have been to kick a slacker out the door here in the command center if they had taken their attention from their important duties. Maybe she wouldn't have to weed her command staff like a witch-hunt after all. The Captain and temp commander of Stratops here might just have known what she was doing. She said in a light voice. "Effective Immediately, By order of Starfleet Command, I hereby take command of Strategic Operations and all contained therein. Computer, transfer all command protocols and command codes to my name. Authorization, Jenna Rulestaad Omega Seven Foxtrot Seven. " A Commander at the command terminal tapped a few buttons and then motioned for a alternate to take the console. The seat was taken as the commander stood and nodded. "Computer, transfer all command protocols and command codes to Captain Jenna Rulestaad. Authorization, Richard Marlin One Alpha Tango Seven." [Transfer of Command Protocols completed.] "Strategic Operations is yours, commander." "Very well." She replied. Without wasting any time, she said "Get me the location on all ships in the battle-group and put together an updated sitrep." She handed over the PADD with location and orders she had typed up earlier, "Send these with proper codes to all ships." "Sir!" Jenna put her hands behind her back and stepped up to the glass. They were going to war, and these were her soldiers. She would not loose. (posted by Trout) ============================================================================ (USS Paladin, Observation Lounge, CO, Captain Eva Straton, 15:00) At exactly 15:00, Eva stood and brought the meeting to order. She looked around the crowded table at all the assembled officers solemnly. ~I wonder how many of them are going to die on this mission? Will any of us survive it?~ Taking a deep breath, she began. "Alright everyone. First let me introduce everyone to our new officers just joining us. In Strategic Operations we have Commander Rulestaad." Eva nodded to the officer sitting on the other side of Commander Capps. "In Engineering, we have Lt. Commander Sarouk as our new CEO. In Medical, Ensign Porter our new ACMO. Is Tactical/Security, Lt Kerge our new TAC\SC. Lt. T'Vhor has been promoted and transferred to the USS Specter as their new First Officer. Lt. Kerge will be taking his place. To each of you welcome aboard. "Now to our new orders. The First Battle Group, under my command, had been tasked with punching a hole in Admiral Doenitz's outer defenses." Eva typed in a command on the table and the holographic emitter came to live showing a medium size star base. "This is our target. Star Base 234. It is situated near the Federation boarder and is a hub for star ship activity in the area and a vital re-supply post. Our orders are to capture if possible, destroy if necessary. At last report, intelligence reported no less than a dozen star ships of various classes in the system defending the star base. Doenitz is no fool, he knows it is a strategically important target and has defended it well, but that won't stop us from capturing it. Currently, we are under way to regroup with the rest of the Battle Group. We have a little less than 4 days to plan and prepare for this engagement. "Lt Kerge, work with Engineering and Operations to ensure that all of the Paladin's offensive and defensive systems are at there best." (Reply Kerge) "Ensign Durron will assist the TAC\SC in that area Captain," Commander Sarouk said evenly, looking from Durron to Kerge. (Reply Kerge, Durron) Eva nodded. "Major Menelian, your department will be in charge of engaging the fighter squadrons based on the star base as well as providing cover fire for the marine boarding ships. Make sure all your squadrons are at 100% capability." "Ensign Rathyn will assist Major Menelian on making sure all fighters are operating at their peak Captain," Sarouk interjected again. Eva nodded at the Vulcan CEO. (Reply Menelian, Rathyn) "Lt. Tirrel, we will be meeting up with some heavy marine reinforcements for this mission. Under the command of one Colonel Michelle Leah Roberts. Be prepared to coordinate with her on this mission. Also, make sure all marine drops ships and equipment is ready." "Ensign Tristen can assist the Lt if needed," Sarouk again interjected. Looking at Tristen then Tirrel. "Lt. Matrix and I can keep things running in Engineering." Sarouk finished looking at Matrix briefly. (Reply Tirrel, Tristen, Matrix IYW) Again Eva nodded, turning to look at her CMO. "Lt. Keller, again we will need you to prepare for the worse. Projected casualties for this mission are high. I need primary and secondary sickbays ready. We can convert one of the cargo bays into a triage center again. Work with Commander Capps on what ever arrangements are needed." (Reply Keller, Capps) "Are there any questions so far?" Eva asked, looking around the room. Doenitz is no fool, he knows it is a strategically important target and has defended it well, but that won't stop us from capturing it. Currently, we are under way to regroup with the rest of the Battle Group. We have a little less than 4 days to plan and prepare for this engagement", said the Captain turning imediately to Kerge. "Lt Kerge, work with Engineering and Operations to ensure that all of the Paladin's offensive and defensive systems are at their best.", said the Captain. The big Klingon imediiately turned to the CO & nodded. "Aye sir, I will make it my first priority", said Kerge, the thought of battle filling his Klingon heart & veins with motivation as he spoke. "Ensign Durron will assist the TAC\SC in that area Captain,", said Commander Sarouk looking from Durron to Kerge. Lt Kerge looked to Durron & nodded once to affirm the commanders orders. "Lt. Tirrel, we will be meeting up with some heavy marine reinforcements for this mission. Under the command of one Colonel Michelle Leah Roberts. Be prepared to coordinate with her on this mission. Also, make sure all marine drops ships and equipment are ready.", said the Captain. Conner simply nodded to her as he rolled a small elongated object end over end lost in concentration as the conversation went on around the table. "Are there any questions so far?" Eva asked, looking around the room. Conner raised a hand to indicate that he did indeed have a question. "According to my last HQ comunique, Colonel Roberts was currently involved in a combined strike against loyalists engaged in the area of Gamma Hydrae just off the Romulan neutral zone", said Conner. "Am I to assume that this mission has now been scrubbed & if so, when & where will our rendevouz take place with Colonel Robert`s HA group?", he added. (Reply CO) "Understood", said Conner as he flipped the metallic object once more over onto it`s end before making a note of the timespan in a PADD. Matrix felt uncomfortable, but knew the Paladin was in good hands as was he. He looked forward to learning from the new CEO. "Affirmative Commander." Matrix sat back in his chair and observed the rest of the meeting, the new officers and wondered if they would get through this mission. He was relieved to have the commander onboard and now in charge of engineering. On such an important mission now wasn't the time to get up to speed as it where. (posted by Steve) =========================================================================== (USS Paladin, Observation Lounge, ACEO Ensign Alura Rathyn, 15:00) At exactly 15:00, Eva stood and brought the meeting to order. She looked around the crowded table at all the assembled officers solemnly. Taking a deep breath, she began. "Alright everyone. First let me introduce everyone to our new officers just joining us. In Strategic Operations we have Commander Rulestaad." Eva nodded to the officer sitting on the other side of Commander Capps. "In Engineering, we have Lt. Commander Sarouk as our new CEO." Sarouk's Vulcan stoicism masked all emotion during the introduction. Rathyn cast a glance at Steve Matrix, who seemed a bit uncomfortable. How could anyone blame him for that? She, especially, knew what it was like to be torn away from a CEO position. He was one of the few people on the Paladin she might call a friend, and she made a made a quick mental note to sit down with him for a drink later in Ten Forward. He might appreciate a sympathetic ear and then again he might not. Anyway, she would extend the offer. "In Medical, Ensign Porter our new ACMO," Straton continued. "Is Tactical/Security, Lt Kerge our new TAC\SC. Lt. T'Vhor has been promoted and transferred to the USS Specter as their new First Officer. Lt. Kerge will be taking his place. To each of you welcome aboard." ~A Klingon TAC officer and security chief.~ Rathyn mused privately. ~We could do a whole lot worse.~ "Now to our new orders," the captain continued, hardly missing a beat. The First Battle Group, under my command, had been tasked with punching a hole in Admiral Doenitz's outer defenses." Eva typed in a command on the table and the holographic emitter came to life showing a medium size star base. "This is our target. Star Base 234. It is situated near the Federation border and is a hub for star ship activity in the area and a vital re-supply post. The captain began doling out assignments around the table beginning with Lt. Kerge then Ensign Durron. Eva nodded. "I'll pick up some equipment in Engineering right after the meeting and meet you in the fighter bay," Rathyn said to Lt. Menelian. (Reply: Menelian) "Lt. "Lt. Keller, again we will need you to prepare for the worse. Projected casualties for this mission are high. I need primary and secondary sickbays ready. We can convert one of the cargo bays into a triage center again. Work with Commander Capps on what ever arrangements are needed." "Understood Captain. We'll need cargo bay three again I'm afraid. Dr. Porter and I will get on it right away." "Are there any questions so far?" Eva asked, looking around the room. So when everyone was finished asking their questions Calvin started to speak about certain tactics that might be used. "In the time that I have had to study Starbase 234, I believe a good tactical move would be a diversion. Starbase 234 has many defenses and thier strongest defense is thier starships. I believe we could use our cloaked ships to create a diversion with as many enemy ships as possible. Once that happends we send our fleet on the opposite side of the diversion. I think that will give us a time window of minimum starship defenses of 15-20 minutes." Eva nodded. "Major Menelian, your department will be in charge of engaging the fighter squadrons based on the star base as well as providing cover fire for the marine boarding ships. Then the Captain continued with her meeting. She told the officers in the meeting about the up comming mission and its various objectives. She then gave general ordes out to each department. "Are there any questions so far?" Eva asked, looking around the room. The First Officer listened to the question that was asked from Tirrel. "How many ships to we expect to join us in this mission, sir?" The young Ensign asked. Eva rose a brow slightly till she remembered he had only recently joined the crew and probably hadn't been told about the rest of the Battle Group. "I understand that you have just recently come aboard like many others," Eva said, matter-of-fact, "So you wouldn't be aware that the Paladin is currently the flag ship of the 1st Battle Group of the 52nd Fleet, there is a total of 40 ships in the Battle Group. 20 Federation and 20 Klingon. All ships in the Battle Group will be taking part in this mission Ensign. I had divided the Battle Group into strike teams in order to perform hit and run attacks on enemy targets along the Federation boarder." Also the USS Praetor(Defiant Class), USS Ulysses(Prometheus Class), USS Republic, and USS Starquest (Both Steamrunner Class) are in formation around the Paladin as part of her strike team. Something else for everyone to keep in mind, the Paladin is not alone right now. RPG: Next Lt. Tirrel spoke up. As the Captain laid out her plan to deal with the situation and gave her orders to the department heads Ryan tried to place the medical files he had read to the officers faces and voices. As this little exercise took most of his attention he did not pay much attention to the words of the officers. As a doctor his only consideration was going to be healing the sick and wounded that arrived in sickbay. "Understood Captain, we'll need cargo bay three again I'm afraid,Dr. Porter and I will get on it right away," Ryan heard the familiar voice of his Chief and paid more attention. Looking to the Chief he nodded in agreement. The location of the Cargo bay was useful for movement and easy enough to alter to suit their needs when it came to it. Although this was based on a small amount of knowledge he had gathered. "Anyone else?" Ryan looked to his chief to seek approval to speak and then on what could be guessed as the Chief’s approval he spoke up. “Captain, would it at all be possible to check over the site to site transporters and if necessary outfit cargo bay three with personnel safe transporters. Even if we totally outfit cargo bay three it would not have all the equipment that sickbay would have and any surgery would be safer in sickbay,” Ryan took a breath to try and slow himself down a little. “Just in a alert situation it might be easier if we don’t have to bug the transporter chiefs to do emergency transports as they arise. "Sir, when would you like to begin working on prepping the Paladin for the upcoming battle, sir?", said Durron. "You may begin imediately Ensign Durron", said Kerge, "Battle may fall upon us at any time & an ill prepared vessel is like a Targ with it`s teeth pulled", he added. Rulestaad quirked her slightly pointy ears as the Captain turned to her. "Do we have an ETA on a rendezvous with the MEF yet?" "The Marine Expeditionary Force will be here within six hours." She said smoothly, "Their mission was scrubbed and more Marines routed her way." Rulestaad turned her head, "Orders came through recently indicating that Colonel Roberts now has two Roger Young class ships with her, with approximately a battalion and a half between them, and has been promoted to Brigadier General for the command." She paused for a moment, "However, she has been tasked to follow your orders, rank is no issue. MEF is yours." She picked up a PADD, "The George S Patton Jr and the John J. He noticed that a dish was installed on the rear of the Paladin to improve the weak shielding between the warp nacelles. Kyp spent about 40 minutes and found a way to use the dish to boost aft shied power by 23%. The modifications that he wanted made to the shield generator would allow total shield power to increase by 6%, and allow shields to regenerate about five minutes faster. After writing a report on the modifications, he began to converse with the computer on how to keep the Paladin safe from a blue supergiant's gravty pull. He was just starting to get frustrated with the computer's usual lack of help because he wasn't "asking the right questions" when Lt. Kerge came in. "Lt.," Kyp nodded his head to Kerge. "Work with Tactical, Engineering, and CONN" She said, "Fighting inside a powerful gravity well can be extremely dangerous. Work on a number of possible attack patterns and have them to me by the end of the day tomorrow." "Aye, sir," Joran said, and then sat back down. First let me introduce everyone to our new officers just joining us. In Strategic Operations we have Commander Rulestaad." Eva nodded to the officer sitting on the other side of Commander Capps. Jared noted Rulestaad had a sour look on her face that seemed to be permanently etched there and he wondered what in the past had caused her to put up such a formidable wall against outsiders. To each of you welcome aboard." Jared was sorry to see Lt. T'Vor go but was happy for him as he had received quite a significant promotion. The news they would be leading a battle group against Doenitzs defenses made him once again wish he had taken a transfer to a somewhat less exciting post, Starbase 234 would not be an easy plum to pick. Captain Straton then began issuing orders to give everyone their instructions and she was very, very thorough; when she got to Jared he nodded worridly at her. "Lt. Keller, again we will need you to prepare for the worse. Projected casualties for this mission are high. I need primary and secondary sickbays ready. We can convert one of the cargo bays into a triage center again. Work with Commander Capps on what ever arrangements are needed." Discussions continued for the upcoming mission for several minutes. With all questions answered, the captain finally looked around at the assembled officers. "Alright then," She said, "We all have a lot of work to do. Lets get busy. Your all dismissed." Rathyn slipped from her chair and moved toward Steve Matrix. "You in the mood for a little friendly conversation in Ten-Forward later," she said trying to be tactful, which wasn't easy for a Bajoran-Cardassian mix. Still it wasn't all that unusual for command structure to change, especially when the circumstances warranted. The rift in Star Fleet and the alliances called for the right people in key places. In many ways Matrix was relieved, still he didn't like the situation. Rathyn slipped from her chair and moved toward Steve Matrix. "You in the mood for a little friendly conversation in Ten-Forward later," she said trying to be tactful, which wasn't easy for a Bajoran-Cardassian mix. Matrix smiled, "You bet Alura. That would be great." Matrix was still smarting a bit from the demotion. Nothing official was presented in person, at least not yet. He hadn't even met the new CEO. Matrix thought it was a slap in the face to have announced the new position to the crew even before Matrix had any official notice. Still he was going to look at this as a learning opportunity and make the best of it. She wasn't sure how to breach the subject of his new position as ACEO, but she was sure it would be best to mention it at a later time. "See you there about 1800 unless we get busy," she told him, "which seems like a very real possibility." As Matrix stood up, he adjusted his uniform, looking at Alura, "Great, I'll see you at 1800...," Matrix paused and grabbed the Ensign's arm, smiled and said under his voice, Thanks Alura see you in a couple of hours." "Unless we receive order to the contrary. you are to remain on board and serve as ACEO. Do not look at this as a set back, but as a chance to learn and grow. Given the current state of the war Matrix chose to believe the latter. Either way he knew he had to rise above the situation and as the Captain said, show he's deserving of the position. "As you can see," he began, "Starbase 234 is in the Lambda Tauri system. This system contains a binary pair, that creates a huge gravity well, enough to hinder any battles taking place within the system. Closer in towards the Starbase, the gravity effect is so intense, that it will even bend the path of a phaser blast towards the center of gravity. This will present a great problem for the battle group if we don't find some way to compensate." Rana spoke up first. "We will need to align the targetig sensors accordingly. If we can figure out the amount of difference, it should be no problem." Christian stood up as he spoke. "During the entire battle, I would suggest keeping navigation entirely manual. Since It seems that the gravity well intensifies as we go further in, it is better to have a human control it, rather than a computer." Then he leaned forwards & went to pick up the PADD on the desk in front of the ensign. "May I?", he said in an attempt at courteousness. "Sure, that's just some improvements I saw that could be made to shields and other systems, and if you want me to join you in Batleth, I would want to use a weapon developed on Earth," he specifically didn't say which weapon to leave a bit of mystery to it. (reply Kerge) Kerge then looked through the PADD & smiled. "I see you have sharpened the teeth of the Targ Ensign Durron, "this is impressive work", he added as he replaced the PADD onto the desk. "Thank you, sir, I try. No, I don't try, I do." "Computers have no spirit, it is but a tool & can only advise", said Kerge in clipped response of Ensign Durron's remark. "Better to keep the ship away from a no win situation like a blue giant", he added. "That would be my own recommendation", said Kerge as he walked over to the master systems display to access the efficiency of the new modifications. "Well, sir, what do you think?" Kyp asked as the Lt. finished looking over the modifications. His gear was already there. Quickly he went through his things, and pulled out his PADDs and the other gear he had brought along with him. After quickly syncing the PADDs up to the Paladin's computer core, he downloaded the layout for the ship, as well as the Tech specs for the ship. If they were going into battle in a couple of days, Michael was going to have his work cut out for him. "Computer, Do I have an office assigned to me, and if so where is it located?" **Affirmative, Chief of Operations office located on deck three, forward section.** "Good. Now, I need to get to work." Michael then tapped his comm badge. "Ensign O'Connor to Ensign Knightly." His Irish accent coloring his voice as he spoke. (Reply Knightly) "Thank you Ensign. The main feature in the office was the desk which was an "L" shape, one side, an actual desk the other a full sized computer terminal, something that would come in very handy. The office also had a comfortable couch, a couple of chairs, a washroom for those long nights, and a food replicator. Soon enough his office's door chime sounded. Eva studied the display carefully, tapping in commands from time to time to rotate the Starbase, change the point of view, and zoom in or out. "The Starbase is well within the stars gravity well," Eva said, "We will still be well outside of weapons range when we drop out of warp. It will take 4 minuets at full impulse to get into weapons range. The Starbase's detection grid eliminates any possibility of getting cloaked ships within range before they are detected either." ~Certainly, this is gonna be one tough nut to crack.~ Eva thought as she typed in another command that zoomed the view out to show the entire system. "And with no natural satellites orbiting the star, our chances of getting surprise is virtually zero." Eva fell silent, as she stared at the holographic display. "Have the Hannibal and the Witchfire do some long range scans of the system under cloak. That will give us some fresh intell on their status. Cmdr Capps was seated in the middle chair of the bridge of his Commanding Officer was off playing with the new Strategic Operations officer. Calvin was still unfimiliiar with Commander Rulestaad, and from what he has heard from the grapevine he did not want to know her either. Never the less he knew he needed to have a meet and greet with her. It was time for business and the First Officer wanted nothing to do with it. His away team and himself had finished up a mission only hours before the attack mission was put on their plates. The other officers had already went to work for the preperations for the new mission. A mission that was going to be dangerous and rigorous. Lt. Cmdr Capps knew that he needed the rest but their was still a good amount of time to get work done. He looked at the view screen, and then he noticed that he was not able to see anything. "Activate View Screen," he said to who ever was listening to him. "Aye sir," a sexy female voice came back to him. He looked over at the Ops station and saw Elizabeth. Calvin must have been pondering so hard that he did not even realize that she had walked back on to the bridge after she had the meeting with Ensign O'Conner. Ensign O'Conner was yet another person that Calvin has not been able to meet and a person that he needed to meet. But first he paid attention to the view screen and the female officer that was sitting at the Ops stattion. "Welcome back to the bridge Ensign Knightley." "Thank you sir," she said with a smile that she only gives to Calvin. She turned around in her swivel chair and activated the view screen. "View Screen Activated." Calvin watched the grayish metal like structure dissipate so that Calvin could see outside of the ship at the stars that dash by as the ship was in motion to their new coordinates. Not much to see out their besides a few other ships that were in sequence with the Paladin. This next mission was going to be the big one. The one that everything else was leading up to. The one that ships might lost, which meant that lives were going to be lost. That was why there was not time to rest, there needed to be preperations. Captain Straton had provided a well advised strategic position for each ship on the Command chair arm rest. Calvin quickly looked at it, and found that the Vanguard was out of place. "Open a channel to the USS Vanguard please," Calvin said again to who ever was listening. "Channel Open sir." The Face of the First Officer popped open on the view screen. He was standing up, and looked confused. "This is the Vanguard." "This is Lt. Cmdr Capps from the Paladin. Is there anything wrong?" The First Officer looked even more confused now than he did before. "No sir." "Then why are you out of position." The Officer on the Paladin's view screen looked down at the CONN's panel. He touched a few buttons and realized that Calvin was correct about where his ship was supposed to be. "Sorry sir, I am correcting the situation now." "Thank you. Remember this mission is very important. We all know we can't always achieve 100 percent accuracy, but we must be very close." "Aye sir." "Paladin out." The view screen went blank. Calvin was still seated in the chair. It was now time for the First Officer to get some real work done. "Lt. Cmdr Capps to Dr. Keller." Rellam carried the holodeck program with him throughout all of his assignments. It contained faithful reproductions of the sniper ranges at Camp Borson, on Andor, and Camps Pendelton and Kaneohe Bay, on Earth. Currently he was at the extreme distance range at Camp Borson. He had been drilling for about an hour, starting on stationary targets at half a kilometer away, and progressing to his current test, moving targets at close to two kilometers. Leading the target just a hair, he felt his heartbeat slow, and at the the right moment, between beats of his heart and at the end of an inhale, he pulled the trigger and watched through the scope as the phaser beam tagged the target in the head. Letting letting out the breath he pushed himself up into a sitting position. He looked at the digital score card for his entire time at the training field and tapped a few buttons to have it logged, it had been a good afternoon. Rellem stood up and walked, with his rifle, over to table behind his firing position. With a precision and speed that can only developed with years of practice, Rellam quickly broke down the rifle and packed it away in it's case, which he slung over his shoulder. "Computer, end program," Rellam said in a deep but quiet voice. He left the holodeck and walked to the nearest turbo lift which he took back to the barracks. "I am also considering sending in one fighter, the best, into this asteroid belt." She touched the screen and zoomed in on a rocky asteroid belt between the 6th and 7th planets, the remains of a planet. "One void sphinx, modified for scout duty, could get close." She paused. "But if they are caught, it will be a given that we're en-route. So if it's done it will have to be done hours before we're set to launch." It had been a long time since he had removed it from its sheath, and he could practically feel the sword begging to be let out. He unsheathed it and examined the blade. The grip had an alternating purple and gold pattern and a purple blade gaurd. The blade was as shiny as the day it was made (over a hundred years ago). This very sword had been passed down through his clan for generations, and it was now his turn to care for it. There were no chips in the blade, for it had been constructed perfectly. Kyp put the katana back in its sheath, and changed into his kimono and wore the hakama over it. His hakama was split and the legs like pants. His kimono was a gold-yellow color and his hakama was purple. The colors of his order were purple and gold, and he proudly displayed his clothing. After that he put on his tabi socks and zori sandals. Once he was dressed, he meditated for a few minutes to put himself in the correct mind frame for using the katana. Walking through the Marine quarters however, Conner could feel the tension in the air as his men prepared themselves. It was nothing new to him of course, everyone got the jitters before a strike mission but the element of surprise was on their side at least. The MCO had of course already liased with the StratOps & the flight Squadron chief on possible tactics, but these were uncertain at best. The mood of Tirrels men however was good, each knew their duty & he knew they wouldn`t let him down when the going got rough. Stopping outside one of the bunk rooms however, Conner observed one the gunnery sergeants meticulously cleaning his rifle, for a moment he said nothing as he noted the mans clear concentration & attention to the task in hand. Then he turned to the power issues that he needed to address. "Computer, display power use profiles for Cargo Bay 3," Michael said, then watched the various default set-ups scroll down the screen. He tapped on the Emergency Medical power suite, to bring up the settings. He quickly adjusted it to what the Doc said he had set up in the bay, making sure there was enough power directed to the bay, and putting a Medical block on the power directed to the bay, to make sure no one redirected the power. He also sent a request to his staff to do a hands on diagnostic of the surge buffers on the EPS leads to the bay, as well as the taps within the bay. He'd do a final, hands off, diagnostic when he came on shift in the morning. Everything had been checked fairly frequently, but he wanted to make sure nothing messed up on his watch. He would have preferred to do the checks himself but, being the Chief of Ops on a ship as big as a Paladin, he had to rely on his staff. Finishing what he needed to do for the Doc, he moved on to the other checks he needed to do. He felt bad that he wouldn't get to be on the bridge his first day, but he really wasn't needed there while they were in transit, and his presence was needed else where, especially if they were going to be going into battle. He had finally worked his muscles out of the pain from being used after so much time without them and was about to start the simualation. He had written a program a long time ago to train on for a major sparring match, but he wasn't sure if it was hard enough to train against with a Klingon. He decided that he would go ahead and run through it anyway. "Computer, begin program Durron 2-1A." The scenery didn't change, but there was another samurai about twenty meters away now. Kyp could see that he meant to do battle with him, and resigned himself to the fight. He repressed all emotion at that point, because he would make mistakes if he fought with emotion. The other samurai charged. Kyp brought up his katana in a middle gaurd and waited for the attack. As the other samurai came down with a swipe that would split him in half, Kyp dashed out of the way and came around with a roundhouse kick on back of the other samurai's head. He fell to his knees, and then vanished. [Moving to level 2] The same samurai appeared. Kyp decided to give him a name and called him Bob. This time, Bob came in more slowly and forced Kyp to defend himself with slashes and parries. After about ten minutes, Kyp finally managed to best him. A handful of crewmen and women scattered around the room turned their heads in her direction momentarily as she entered then turned back to their various partners and groups. Her eyes swept across the spacious room as she crossed over to the bar and she spotted Steve Matrix sitting at a table near the broad forward viewport. "Cardassian magrun tonic," she said to the bartender. Few Bajorans drank the beverages of thier old enemies, but she did have a taste for some of the beverages developed by her grandfather's people. A frothy glass mug filled with a creamy orange liquid was set before her. She took it up and moved toward Matrix' table. Drawing near, she announced her approach. "Lieutenant." (Reply: Matrix) She took the proferred seat across the table and faced him taking a quick sip of her drink then used the provided napkin to wipe away the foam from her lips. "How're you doing?" It felt a little awkward talking to her former CEO in an informal setting. (Reply: Matrix) Tact wasn't her strong suit, so she returned to form and said what was on her mind. "I'm sorry that you lost the CEO position. I've been slapped with that scourge before, and it stings for awhile." Didn`t any of them realise that it had not been his doing. Pulling out the chair to his desk however, he leaned his head back & let out a loud, gutteral roar in an attempt to release some of the pent up tension from within him. Outside of the office, a few startled crewmen turned & wondered what the Klingon was doing, then they returned to their duties feeling it better that they stayed out of his way at least for the time being. What he was doing however, was pulling open a drawer in the desk, noticing as he did so the unopened bottle of Klingon blood wine therein. Kerge furrowed his brow & then took the bottle from the drawer with a smile. ~What fool has left this here~ He wasn`t to know it of course but this was the bottle that had been left there by Lt Morgot, the Klingon security chief that had occupied this office prior to Lt T`Vhor. He had passed the bottle on to the old SC as a parting gift on his assignment to security chief but the Vulcan/betazoid had not even opened it. Kerge`s eyes glared almost lustfully as he held the bottle up to the light, he wanted to drink the whole bottle right there & then but thought better of it as he returned it to the drawer, perhaps for a later time. He pushed the drawer closed & then powered up a nearby PADD to look over the past reports of his security team members in order to familiarise himself with them all. One of the team however stuck out like a proverbial sore thumb, who was this Ensign Dunn? The man intrigued him, by the looks of his report he was a veritable magnet for trouble & when he himself wasn`t looking for it, it seemed to find him! Kerge smiled, he liked the man already. All he would need to do was direct him & channel that maverick streak into something more useful & he would make a fine Chief someday... Kerge turned the PADD off & then he rose from his chair to stomp out of his office & off down the coridoor to the again startled looks of other crewmembers. He then tapped his commbadge... =/\=Lt Kerge to Ensign Dunn, please respond=/\= (Reply Dunn) =/\=Report to me in my office at 19:00 hrs, I wish to speak with you=/\= (Reply Dunn) Kerge then carried on down the coridoor towards the turbolift at the very end of it. He had sent a message to Lt. Matrix to let him know he would meet him at the bar in Ten Forward specifically. The department had been run quite nicely by Ensign Knightly, and he really didn't have any other work besides getting to know the ship, which he could do in his quarters. Right around the time they said they would meet, an Engineer walked up to Michael. (Reply Matrix) "Good to meet you, Sir. Should we find a table where we can talk?" In his prime, he had been able to get all the way to level 14, but he would get stronger. Kyp took a quick shower and decided to go down to the ten forward for dinner. He was going to see if their were any other members of the senior staff here for him to talk to about the Paladin, seeing as he had only been here for about a day and a half. He wanted to meet someone who had been on the ship for a while to meet. He went to the bar and got a drink. He sat down and blew out a sigh of release. Nobody else on this ship, except for Christian, knew how to play 45s, and Joran didn't feel like beating him for the millionth time. So, he was looking for someone to teach. He saw Ensign Durron at the bar, and went over to him. "Hello, Ensign. Mind if I join you?" (reply Durron) "Thank you." He sat down, and ordered a coffee. (posted by Patrick) ======================================================================================== ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SPECIAL POST ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ NRPG: I am posting this post here as it takes place both in the location of the Paladin & Geneva. In effect, it`s T`Vhor`s closing post as 20/TAC/SC of the Paladin. RPG: Mission - Interim Stardate 2407.01.10 Day One (Runabout Phoenix - USS Paladin locale - 20/TAC/SC T`Vhor - Day One - 14:30) How things changed so fast in these most troubled of times. At the helm of the Phoenix, T`Vhor sat with just a hint of sadness as he glanced out through the side window upon the ship that had been his home, refuge & many things more besides. Once again he was leaving good friends, friends he had fought alongside & friends he had come to regard as extended family. Duty was duty though & that was exactly what he was now doing, attending to duty. The vast alien vessel, it`s lights & impulse engines glowing now with renewed life after the USS Paladin`s helpful & timely intervention, veered off smoothly to the left & then went to warp as the smaller vessel of the other species they had encountered turned through one hundred & eighty degrees to do likewise. T`Vhor`s actual encounter with the alien being had been a strange one to say the least & had certainly left it`s mark, after all it wasn`t everyday you found yourself stuck within a temporal phase out. All said & done though, he felt rather elated at the past few days events, it was good to help those in need & quite possibly even gain an ally in the process. The thought actually brought an uncharacteristic smile to T`Vhor`s otherwise unemotional hybrid Vulcan features. Breaking his reverie however, the USS Paladin then began turning also as their Ops officer contacted him for the last time. =/\=Safe Journey Lt, it`s been good to serve with you, give our regards to Geneva.....oh & Lt Cmdr Capps says thanks for the Wehk-Pukan lessons, perhaps a simpler game of Nesh-kur heh Yon-kur next time=/\= T`Vhor raised an eyebrow in typical Vulcan fashion at the remark. "Tell the Lt Cmdr that I`ll expect him to at least match me in our next bout of Wehk-Pukan, he will not however beat me in a game of Backgammon", he added. "Will do sir, once again have a safe & uneventful journey", said the ops officer. "I`m certainly hoping that will be the case, T`Vhor out", said T`Vhor as he broke off communications to initiate proceedures for his three day travel to the Geneva locale. "Computer, plot a course to the Geneva station, best speed please", said T`Vhor. [Course plotted & layed in, ETA to Geneva is sixty one hours & forty two minutes at warp four] T`Vhor then sat back into the chair as he watched the Paladin go to warp amidst a streak of blurring blue light leaving him alone with nothing now but the stark voice of the Phoenix`s computer for company. He paused briefly before continuing, then he leaned forwards towards the console. "Engage", said T`Vhor & the runabout swung about to it`s programmed heading under the computers direction before engaging at warp four. Mission - Interim Stardate 2407.01.11 Day Two (Runabout Phoenix - First Officer T`Vhor - Day two - 09:10) It was the warning klaxon in the runabouts cabin that had awakened T`Vhor from his sleep. At first he had thought he had been dreaming but the ominous presence of a Romulan warbird filling the forward viewscreen instantly brought him back to reality as he leapt up from the bunk to take up position at the runabouts helm. He didn`t have to initiate comms or bring the Pheonix to a stop as the computer had already done this & the warbird was already hailing anyway. T`Vhor accepted the hail to imediately bring the Romulan commander onto his screen. "Greetings", said the Romulan with a nod & T`Vhor acknowledged with a curious nod in return. "I trust you have good reason to have interrupted my journey Commander", said T`Vhor in as diplomatic a tone as he could muster. "Why have you done so anyway?", he added. "I am merely following normal Romulan proceedures", said the Romulan commander in a calm tone of voice as he settled back into his command chair with the usual smugness invariably associated with a Romulan. T`Vhor raised an eyebrow quizically. "Normal Romulan proceedures Commander?", he asked as the Romulan leaned forwards in his chair. "These are....let us say unusual times, we have noted a great deal of Klingon & Starfleet activity in this sector & others besides, it is of course in our best interest to keep ourselves apraised for the good of the Romulan senate", he added, only thinly disguising his obvious nosiness in the process. T`Vhor stared straight ahead unflinching at the Romulan commanders obvious & clear attempt to garner information as to his current mission & reasons for being in this region of space. "It is not Starfleet protocol to need to let every species we encounter in on the nature of our missions commander, just as it is not Romulan protocol to do likewise", said T`Vhor. The Romulan nodded to affirm the statement. "This is true, I do so hate Vulcan logic but nonetheless, you are correct", said the commander. "Then I trust you have no objections to my continuing on my way", said T`Vhor. Again the Romulan nodded graciously. "None whatsoever, I must point out however that we have encountered various hazards in this area of space, as concerned allies to the federation I thought you might like to be aware of these", he added. "Already aware commander", said T`Vhor, "After all, I responded quickly enough to your interception of my journey", he added. The Romulan furrowed his brow in response of T`Vhors words but he let it pass nonetheless. "I shall bid you farewell & safe passage to wherever it is you are heading then", he said in one last attempt at extracting his mission details before leaving. "Thank you commander", said T`Vhor giving nothing away as the communication cut abruptly prior to the Warbird turning & engaging warp. T`Vhor breathed a sigh of relief at their departure & then re-engaged the Phoenix`s own engines to continue on his way once again before logging the encounter with the computer. Mission - Interim Stardate 2407.01.12 Day Three Runabout Phoenix - First Officer T`Vhor - Day Three - 10:34) "Computer, run a level three diagnostic on all runabout systems", said T`Vhor. [Beginning level three diagnostic on all ships systems] T`Vhor then returned to the task in hand that had been occupying him now for the past one hour & twenty five minutes. Sitting at the makeshift table before him, he pondered briefly & then he lifted one peg from the board & jumped it over one of the pegs next to it, then he removed that one peg from the board. The game was as infuriating to him as it was futile in it`s goal but addictive nonetheless. Given to him by a friend a long time beforehand as a challenge, he had never been able to finish with the one peg in the centre of the playing area as was required in the rules. Solitaire seemed to be such a pointless game & yet still he tried to complete it... The silence of concentration however was soon broken by the drone of the computer as it reported back the results of the diagnostic he had ordered. [There is a three percent intolerance in the port coolant vessel, the pressure in the line has dropped by twelve degrees] T`Vhor raised his head in response to the report, then he stood to access the environmental controls directly from the helm. "ETA to Geneva?", said T`Vhor. [The Phoenix will arrive at the Geneva station in two hours fifty four minutes at our current speed] T`Vhor pondered the situation momentarily & then instructed the computer again. "Compensate for the intolerance, inform me if the condition worsens", said T`Vhor. [Applying compensative measures to the port Coolant vessel, intolerance is now within nominal range] T`Vhor then returned to his seat & the infernal game that was beginning now to burn into his brain as indelibly as if it had been branded there with a hot iron. (Runabout Phoenix - First Officer T`Vhor - Day Three -13:21) At the rear of the forward cabin, the solitaire game remained where it had been from the time it had been played, uncompleted..... T`vhor was now seated at the helm, the computer having already dropped the Phoenix out of warp on entering the vicinity of the Geneva station. He was manually piloting the ship in at one quarter impulse, the welcoming site of the vast station visible & growing ever bigger now in the viewscreen upon his approach. Tapping a panel on the console before him, he opened a channel to the station, a short beep signalling an open & stable carrier as he did so. =/\=Geneva station, this is runabout Phoenix en route from the USS Paladin requesting clearance to dock=/\= Within seconds the Ops officer on Geneva had responded to the hail. =/\=Phoenix we have you on approach, stand by for validation=/\= =/\=Standing by, transmitting clearance codes now=/\= T`Vhor then sent the required clearance codes to Geneva for validation. A few seconds passed as expected & then the Geneva Ops officer responded again. =/\=Geneva to runabout Phoenix, clearance confirmed, proceed to hanger bay nine=/\= =/\=Thank you Geneva, engaging autodock procedures now=/\= =/\=Welcome to Geneva station sir=/\= The Phoenix computer then took the ship in to range of the stations tractor guidence system before handing control over to it completely. After that, the runabout simply glided on in towards the required hanger bay whilst T`Vhor sat back once again to watch the smooth transit towards the lit up bay with it`s sequenced approach lights lit indicating the glide path. As he gazed silently out of the side window though, T`vhor noted that the station seemed unusually quiet at this time, normally every docking port would have accomodated a vessel of some type, now they were devoid of all but a few. ~Strange, strange indeed~ The place looked like a ghost town...
